Brown Girls Do Covers

Supermodels were they belong, on the cover of magazines!!! So refreshing to see fab brown girls Jourdan Dunn and Chanel Iman on this months issue of Teen Vogue. In the article they discuss the fashion industry and each other. A definite must read! Here are two of my favorite pics from the fab spread:

So Fierce. So Fab.

Must Have Fall Bag: Chanel Coco Cocoon

Karl Lagerfeld has done it again, and the new Coco Cocoon Line is completely addictive. These new Fall/Winter 2009/10 bags, inspired by England it-girl Lily Allen, are both fashionable and versatile, a sign of the economic times. Made in washed lambskin or nylon (think fluffy down jacket), they can be reversed to reveal the signature Chanel quilted pattern. Here are some stills of the campaign:

Fierce doesn't even begin to describe... Check out the video

Prices start around $400 in the small leather goods for a lambskin keycase and go up exponentially for the handbags and travel bags, but these are sure to last a lifetime!

Stay Fierce. Stay Fab.

Brown Girl of the Moment

I can't help but love Ms. Angela Simmons. She's fierce, fashion-forward, and fearless. And that Chanel Coco Cocoon that debuted at the beginning of this month is F-A-B Fab!! Oh and I'm all about a red lip! Definitely brown girl approved. Loves it!

Good Hair!

I am so intrigued by the new Chris Rock Film "Good Hair" opening October 9th in theaters. There has been so much media hype surrounding this film. It has really got me thinking. I ask myself daily why I subscribe to the idea that in order to be happy I must wear weave, I understand that the ideas of beauty that the media has fed me for over 21 years have developed my perception of what is beauty. So yes, I do feel somewhat bound to the ideals of culture, but I do have a say in the matter. I am here because I like how I look. I like long hair (sometimes down to by butt) Do I like it because society tells me its nice? Probably, but I like it none the less. While it is a multi-billion dollar industry I honestly don't mind putting money into it because I appreciate the results. Good Hair? Bad Hair? I choose to use chemicals and weaves in my hair because it makes me happy, not oppressed, or trapped, or captive maybe as others feel. I'm about being happy and if that means natural or processed that is fine by me! Many people might see it as a struggle, but I consider it a labor of love.

Here's Solonge Knowles on Oprah taking about her decision to cut all her hair off:

Here's Nia Long talking on Chelsea Lately about weave:

Interesting. Interesting. Interesting.

Brown Girls Do Covers

These are the two fliest magazine covers I've seen in a minute. Brown girls are def doing it up this season. The first is Rihanna's cover for the supplemental Haute Couture issue for the upcoming VOGUE Italia. So fierce. The second is the cover of the September issue of i-D magazine with the brown girls currently dominating fashion: Chanel Iman, Sesilee Lopez, Jourdan Dunn, and Arlenis Sosa. So fab.

Colorful Couture: Dior Fall 2009 Collection

John Galliano has shared with us his genius and showmanship in is Fall 2009 Couture Collection for Christian Dior. In this somewhat depressing economic time, Galliano makes it clear that fashion can be extravagant and reminiscent of times before. He focuses on the staples that have made Dior legendary such as the bar jacket. His play with ultra structured pieces, uber feminine couture undergarments, and dramatic hats are flawless on the runway. I'm in love. The look comes together with heavy makeup reminiscent the 80's. A full face is so in! Who says a bold lip and a heavy eye aren't allowed?!? Gotta love John Galliano and Christian Dior Fall Couture. Here are some of my favorite stills from the show:

The Rachel Zoe Project is Back

After much anticipation for any fashion lover...the Rachel Zoe Project is finally back on Bravo!!! I am in love. Her show gives an inside glimpse into the the life of a celebrity stylist. The first episode dropped us directly into award season with the Golden Globes along with all the usual suspects: Rachel herself, her husband Roger, and assistants Brad and Taylor. I do not know how I'm going to study this semester with this on the air. And did I mention Rachel and Rodger are George Washington University Alums (Awww G-Dub!) so there is hope for the aspiring fashionistas like myself at schools like GW!!! Here's the trailer from season two, and make sure you catch The Rachel Zoe Project Monday nights at 10P/EST.

Color Gets Fierce

This is my Saturday night look. The three eye colors come from a Maybelline Expertwear Eyeshadow Trio. On brown skin it really pops! My eyeliner is from Wet n' Wild in dark blue and Maybelline Great Lash Mascara in royal blue. Just having a little fun with primary colors for the night. What ya think?

Shopping With A Cause

I am notorious for spending. I buy, buy, buy as if my life were dependent on it (and it's not always in my best financial interest...lol) But I promised the next purchase I made would be more that a fleeting fad or a throw away that I would be done with in the next week. I found it. The Rough Diamond & Malachite Green bracelet from the Green Initiative which is apart of the Simmons Jewelry Company. It is 10 mm Genuine Malachite Beads stretch bracelet, rough diamond in diamond shaped charm and proceeds benefit the Diamond Empowerment Fund (DEF) whose mission is to raise money for the development and empowerment of the people and communities in Africa where diamonds are a natural resource. The Diamond Empowerment Fund is non-profit international organization established by individuals and businesses in the diamond industry and others who are committed to empowerment of Africa. It's fierce and it goes to help others so that definitely will make it $125 well spent.

Check My Footwork

Check the new Dolce Vita, 4.5 inch, fierce, zip-up, black with gold accent boots. All the ladies are side-eyeing when I step out in these. Trust and believe they will be apart of the YouTube Fashion Haul I'm doing soon. I also think I'm gonna do an actual review on Dolce Vita. They have some hot shoes and they also have hot pieces on their website. That's all for now.
